Enjoy the beauty of hand-crafted cement tiles that add long-lasting aesthetics to your living space. The art of creating cement tiles with multi-colored patterns has been practiced for a long time. In several countries, they are usually still handmade in a tradition-based way with traditional patterns. However, as more modern designs are being introduced, the popularity of these tiles in contemporary homes is growing. Get inspired by the range and creativity of handmade tiles that might remain used for a long time after your house has gone.

           Identity Crisis of Tiles?

There are many instances of encaustic applied to patterns of multi-colored cement tiles. In the past, this term has been applied to a process of firing that melts a glazed pattern on the surface of a tile. However, it has also been used for a considerable period of time to cement tiles that have deep inlaid designs instead of an exterior glaze. The tiles are compressed to tie the pieces and not fired.

In this method, minerals are poured into a mold for design, after which the tile is backfilled with cement and set with hydraulic compression before curing. Although it's not exactly correct, the term "encaustic" is widely used even in the marketplace for tiles. In this case, we're talking about cement tiles that are hydraulically compressed and have an engraved pattern on the interior of the tiles.

Patterned cement tiles with inlaid patterns are widely used. This art form is found throughout France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Latin America, and Scandinavia; however, the composition and design of tiles differ based on cultural influence. Tiles imported from the Mediterranean were the norm throughout Victorian England. Cuba has adopted this method from Spain, and Havana's slowly decrepit colonial buildings are well-known for their gorgeous, time-worn tiles flooring.

           Cement Tiles? Why?

They're a remarkably multi-functional product and aren't solely for indoor flooring; paths, bathroom walls, and splashbacks (backsplashes), entryways, everywhere you put them, they'll create a lasting impression.

In addition to keeping the craft alive and offering commercial opportunities in areas that are less prosperous, there are also positive environmental benefits of handmade cement tiles. They are made of earth-based materials that are natural pigments. They also consume less energy than fired tiles.

The main reason to choose them is the perfect imperfections of their design. The thickness of the tiles can vary between tiles, like the shade of pigments and patterns could bleed off the edges of the tiles when compressed, making them unique. The thing we love about the tiles is their lack of uniformity. They don't appear mass-produced since the process of hand-pouring the pigments which create the pattern ensures that every tile is different. This variance adds appeal and awe.

Another reason that draws people to them is the fact that they are live tiles that change as time passes. While some might consider this an advantage and would prefer a tile that is shiny and fresh, the softness of a stone that ages slowly is the reason they are unique. If you're not interested in the safety of a mass-produced, stable tile that doesn't require maintenance, it is a dynamic and personal option. An appealing patina tends to be developed outside, in areas exposed to water, wind and sun, as well as in areas of high traffic.

Cuban cement tiles are an extremely popular option for kitchen backsplashes wall, wainscots, or walls, as the tiles provide the appearance of pattern and color, along with the look of movement or texture. They also allow for flexibility and the possibility of customizing. This is the reason that many of our clients decided to select Cuban Heritage tiles for their restoration project.

With two different colorways, choose a color scheme that is in harmony with your home and personal taste. Utilize the Cuban cement tiles as a kitchen backsplash, as well as accent walls in front of a stove. The kitchen backsplash is based on the cross pattern. The wall that is behind the cooking area, which is another shade, employs a quarter-like design that alternates. By using the illustration designs, we could create according to the colors you choose. You'll be able to visualize the pattern prior to striking off samples or when a complete order has been placed.

It is evident that Cuban concrete tiles can be a fantastic option to add color and design to your commercial space or home. The tiles were initially designed to be a durable flooring option. They are becoming more sought-after as a focal wall option, like a backsplash for the kitchen. The most well-known design and colorway of the Cuban Heritage Collection is Design 110-2B. The motif is composed of two quarter-sized designs on 8-inch square tiles: a medallion and a cross. The pattern is very fluid, and the cross and medallion alternate in a checkerboard fashion. The cross and the medallion can be combined to create an entirely different look. While commonly there are three colors for this design, it is popular to alter the colors to give a personal touch that is unique and individual.

How to apply a penetrating sealer?

How to apply a penetrating sealing agent like a pro? You should seal cement tile to prevent water damage and staining. However, you can also use them to restore or enhance color. Because of the variety of sealers available, the nomenclature and the many manufacturers, sealing cement tiles is one of the most confusing steps.

Cement tile can appear dull and chalky before a penetrating sealing agent is applied. A penetrating sealer protects the tile against water and staining. Topical and penetrating sealers can be used to brighten colors. They can also provide additional finishes such as gloss or sheen. Sealers are still one of the most confusing and misunderstood steps in installing cement tile. There are many types of sealers, including topical, color-enhancing, and impregnating. Also, there is a dizzying array of manufacturers and specialized products.

            Step 1.

Choose a high-quality impregnating or penetrating sealer. A solvent-based or water-based sealer can be used. Water-based sealers can be easier to apply, and they may offer better protection as they don't absorb into the tile as well. Solvent-based sealers are stronger than water-based ones and can provide greater protection against water.

             Step 2.

Apply a topically applied sealer to give the tile an additional finish. Because they penetrate the tile beneath the surface, penetrating sealers do not affect the tile's finish. Topical sealers protect the tile's surface from stains. There are three types of topical sealers: matte, satin, and shiny. A chemical is often added to matte topical sealers. This not only reduces the shine but also weakens it. Because of the rapid degradation caused by sunlight, topical sealers should not be used for exterior purposes. The skin will begin to wear and need to be reapplied more frequently than the penetrating sealers.

             Step 3.

Test your sealer/sealer combination. Make sure to test your final sealer/sealer combination. Apply the sealer to a tile test and ensure that it is applied correctly.

            Step 4.

Clean the area to be sealed. Begin by cleaning the tiles with a broom or blower. Next, clean the tile with a mild detergent or a tile cleaner. Rinse with water and a grout sponge. Clean the tile again if it looks cloudy or hazy.

            Step 5.

Apply the sealer using a lamb's wool applicator, a lint-free cloth or a paint brush. You should apply three coats of sealer, allowing it to dry between each one. You should apply the sealer generously, but do not allow it to pool, streak, or run.

Cement tile crazing: Cement tiles often show "crazing" or fine hairline cracks. This isn't a defect, and it does not indicate a problem with the tile. However, the cracks will become more obvious when tiles are wet or after applying a sealer. On plain tiles, as well as on darker tiles, the small cracks and branches are more noticeable. If you notice this after applying a sealer or if tiles become wet, don't panic.

Avoiding efflorescence in cement tile installations

Concrete in water can undergo efflorescence, which is a physical phenomenon. Although the discussion is technical, it is easy to understand. It should be required reading for anyone who has concrete tiles or plans to use them in a future project. It is essential to understand what efflorescence means, how it happens, and where it occurs. All concrete can experience efflorescence, but it is more common in decorated concrete. This causes the tile to look different and changes its color.

           What is Efflorescence?

Efflorescence can be described as a powdery substance, or incrustation, that forms on concrete surfaces such as sidewalks, cement tiles or driveways. It is important to understand that efflorescence can occur as a natural phenomenon. It can happen with any product that contains Portland cement, including concrete, clay, and terracotta. It is often a white powder or salty substance on cement tiles. French roots give the word efflorescence its French meaning, which means to bloom.

           Where does efflorescence come from?

When soluble salts and other materials reach the concrete or mortars' surface, this is called efflorescence. Have you ever boiled a pot and let it dry? Or rinse your car in the sun with a hose? You can see the salt residue or ring left. The salt will be left when the water evaporates. A similar phenomenon is an efflorescence. When cement or cement tiles dry out, lime in cement rises to the surface and reacts with carbon dioxide in the air to make calcium carbonate. This causes a white film or powder to form on the tile's surface. Low temperatures, moisture, rain, and water can cause it. It can happen very quickly after being exposed to moist or cool environments or gradually in sub-grade concrete structures (like a parking garage).

How can I prevent or stop efflorescence?

When laying cement floor tiles, make sure you have a cement subfloor that is stable and cured. Before laying floor tiles, it is important that the cement subfloor be fully cured. The concrete subfloor must be completely dried before tiles can be applied. If it isn't, moisture could seep into the tiles and cause efflorescence. Efflorescence cannot occur if there isn't a water source to allow capillary water to flow through tiles. A pound of prevention is better than a thousand cures.

           How can I remove efflorescence?

The tile will usually remove any efflorescence that was visible before it is installed. It is possible to sand smaller areas. Use 200-grit wet sandpaper for sanding the area.

Efflorescence can occur after tiles are installed. First, clean the tiles thoroughly. Use a floor polisher that has a green pad and lots of water. To confirm that the efflorescence has been stopped, you will need to allow the tiles to dry completely.

A penetrating sealer can stop efflorescence from resurfacing. If you still have a problem, the next step is to apply a penetrating sealer. Before applying the sealer to the entire floor, always test its reaction in a small area. Use a high-quality penetrating sealer.

There are also efflorescence cleaners. The products are not recommended for use in our experience. We recommend testing them on a small area of tile or a hidden area to verify the results. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and avoid acid-based products, which can damage concrete tiles.

There's a lot of confusion as well as a lot of mystery surrounding the distinction between encaustic tiles, encaustic cement tiles, and concrete tiles. Although it might seem like a trivial issue or even a practice in semantics, it is crucial to be aware of the differences between the two kinds of tiles and the places you should and shouldn't make use of these types of tiles. This process begins by knowing the different ways tiles are made and concludes by ensuring you are satisfied with the purchase, by identifying the perfect style and looking to complete the task.

Encaustic and Cement Tiles Vary in How They are Made

It's not difficult to understand why the names cement tile and encaustic get confused. The distinction between these kinds of tiles is in the method by which they're created. Additionally, this confusion can be exacerbated since nearly everyone uses the terms interchangeably including tile manufacturers and tile suppliers. Both encaustic and cement tiles are not glazed. In addition, the tiles appear quite similar when placed. We'll now discover the difference between cement and encaustic tile.

Encaustic tile can be considered resistant to frost and is suitable for use in all outdoor settings. The cement tile that is hydraulically pressed cannot be used in areas that are susceptible to hard freezes. It is usually found within Mediterranean and Tropical climates. Now you can understand the significance of knowing the different types of tiles and how they are utilized. But some pre-cast concrete tiles are frost-proof and suitable for outdoor applications in cold climates.

           How Encaustic Tile Is Made?

Encaustic tiles are constructed of two or more shades of clay that are bonded together to form the pattern. The tiles are fired afterward. Tiles made of encaustic have been in use since the time of the medieval era. However, the use of encaustic tiles as an artistic form reached its peak around the mid-1800s when the well-known manufacturer, Minton's Ltd, became the main supplier of durable decorative surfaces for flooring and walls in public buildings, churches, and grand palaces. The U.S. Capitol sports a Minton tile floor made of encaustic. Even today, England has the most popular encaustic tile installations since Minton tile belongs to an English firm.

How Encaustic Cement Tile Is Made?

Encaustic cement tiles consist of concrete. The color of the pattern is derived from mineral pigments that are mixed and then poured into molds. This technique was first developed around the turn of the century and hasn't been altered much since the time it was developed. The pattern isn't painted or glazed as is the case with most ceramic tiles that are decorative; however, it is embedded into the inside of the tile with the mold.

The term "encaustic" was originally used to refer to the method of enameling; however, in the 19th century, it was used to refer to tile work that was inlaid because of its similarity to enamel work. This could explain why encaustic tile, which is created using clay inlaid and then fired to create patterns or patterns, as well as an encaustic tile which is constructed using colored concrete inlaid with molds, are often both referred to as encaustic tiles.

Encaustic cement tiles, or cement tiles, are created by hand, using an elaborate process. Three different layers compose the encaustic cement tiles. The initial layer forms the top layer, also known as the patterned portion of the tile. The grid is patterned at the bottom of the square mold. A color mix of white cement and marble powder along with natural colors are put into each area that is a grid.

The installation of cement tile is a straightforward procedure, but it should be handled with care, thought, and most importantly, some planning. Since each tile is hand-crafted, there are tiny variations in thickness, shape, and color. A few minor imperfections, uneven edges, and crazing are all inherent to cement tiles and contribute to the appeal of the product. No matter if you're a DIYer, we've provided our advice on how to put in cement tile.

To get the most effective outcomes, we suggest hiring an experienced tile installer as cement tile is a bit less tolerant when it comes to installation as porcelain tiles or ceramic tile that is glazed. We have seen numerous DIYers put in cement tiles and have had success following these tips. Patience and planning are essential for a successful tile installation. These guidelines for cement tile installation apply regardless of patterns, colors, or use. Use these guidelines for flooring installations, tiled staircases, or kitchen backsplash. Keep in mind that ceiling and wall applications are the most challenging.

Pre-Installation Tips for Installing Cement Tile

Since cement tile is porous, special care must be taken to prevent staining caused by grease, oil markers, and dirt on the hands. You should consider pre-sealing or pre-sealed polished tile when they are available. This is particularly important for walls or if you are a DIYer.

Each tile is handmade; there are slight variations in size, thickness, and shades. It's important to keep in mind that these variations enhance the natural beauty and don't affect the effectiveness of the tile.

It is important to take pieces randomly from the boxes to ensure an even blending of the tile. This is crucial for any plain or solid-colored cement tiles. Remove any tiles before installation that appear to be ones that you do not like.

For tile installations with patterns, make sure to lay out the tile dry to make sure that any pattern imperfections or color contrasts that are stark can be blended with other tiles.

Steps for a Successful Cement Tile Installation:

The tiles must be set using a thin (1/16") grout line, using tiles spacers.

Tiles must be laid on an evenly level and clean surface. If you are laying tiles on concrete, ensure that the concrete has been given time for curing and that it is dry.

Tiles can be cut with a wet saw and diamond blade.

In the event of installing patterns, start by laying the center part first, followed by the borders, and then the field tile which will be used to surround the pattern. Be sure to avoid laying borders close to the wall's edge because nothing is plumb and square.

When putting in a cement rug or tile pattern, begin with the primary field pattern in the middle before completing the border.

Tiles can be put in place with a pre-mixed adhesive such as Mapei Type I, or using normal thin-set mortar. In either case, you should use an extremely pointed trowel for spreading the glue across the tile's surface and to the inside of the tile to ensure adequate adhesion.

If you are using a thin set of mortar tiles, the surface needs to be moistened. If using an adhesive that has been pre-mixed, the tile's back must be scrubbed gently.

The tiles should be laid manually and handled with care to avoid damaging edges. The tiles should be leveled with your hands. Utilizing a hammer made of rubber to achieve this can damage the tile's surface. The tiles are not able to be ground down once they are put in place, so it is crucial to ensure they are level when they are installed.

Any mortar residue left on the surface of the tile needs to be removed promptly to prevent staining.

Even though encaustic cement tiles have been available since the 1850s, they can easily be used to give a modern effect. We will tell you how to select the appropriate pattern and color palette to make these tiles look at home in any contemporary setting. Who says that an old horse cannot be taught new tricks?

An Old Tile Displaying a Modern Design

The adaptability of cement tiles makes them an ideal choice for modern homes and contemporary interiors. Here are a few of our favorite examples demonstrating how effectively encaustic cement tiles with geometric designs contribute to a modern aesthetic.

The clubhouse of a resort features a geometric cement tile design that is a metaphor for golf balls and the green. Using pattern tile to produce cement tile rugs provides a little dress-up yet still a casual appearance. The rugs do not have frilly ornamental borders, but they distinguish the seating places from the basic, large-format tile. Avoiding typical borders prevents a design from becoming overcrowded. The color and style are whimsical, amusing, and informal. If you decide to add a border, use a basic pattern such as the one on the master bathroom floor. Notice how the color palette is restrained and the pattern is limited to a single surface, such as the floor or an accent wall.

Use geometric designs to give a contemporary appearance with cement tile. Use no more than two or three colors. It is ideal to combine a neutral color with two tones of another color, such as white with light green and dark green.

Have Fun With Geometric Patterns To Maintain A Calm Mood

The classic two-color palette of the Serengeti design gives it an exotic, modern air that transcends time. A resort restaurant's dining room floor is an attractive and contemporary focal point for this type.

Tiles can be "mismatched" so that cream-colored tiles are contrasted with black tiles. Compared to the pattern of the Serengeti, in addition, the pattern extends throughout the entire room without a border. All of these design decisions give this resort restaurant a fresh, contemporary vibe while retaining an exquisite atmosphere.

To obtain a modern appearance, be sure to utilize a straightforward color palette. You should choose no more than two or three colors. One color should often be neutral, white, or off-white. Add a third bold color sparingly as an accent, or choose one that is either darker or lighter.

Tips for Creating a Modern Appearance with Cement Tile

If you adore cement tiles and want to utilize them in your mid-century contemporary or want to keep a casual appearance in an open space, here are a few helpful recommendations.

Limit your color options to a few.

Choose geometric patterns with basic, clear lines.

Install patterns so that they extend to the room's perimeter.

Consider "mismatching" the dark and light hues on adjacent tiles. This works nicely with high-contrast tiles and complementing hues that are more vibrant.

Add patterned tiles to either the floor or a feature wall, but not both. Otherwise, the design becomes very crowded.

Create tile rugs without border tiles or with very simple border patterns for huge rooms.

New Cement Tile Patterns in Stock that Delight

Looking for fresh patterns of cement tile and need them immediately? There are four new patterns in stock that are certain to please! Patterns include blue and white geometric patterns, such as the Calais. In classic hues, there are also two new contemporary patterns: Stripes and Madesimo. Finally, a new style pattern, Bucharest, in a calming shade of green.

           #1 - Calais Cement Tile

The ever-popular Calais pattern in blue and white is a traditional geometric design. This timeless design works equally well in modern and traditional settings. This basic design can be found at numerous restaurants, bistros, and coffee shops. The geometric pattern, which was originally inspired by stone tile, uses eight parallelograms within a typical octagon-and-dot pattern to produce a star or flower. If you enjoy clean lines, geometry, and pattern, the Calais is an excellent option for you. We find that the pattern works well in both modern and classic settings. Because of its clear, geometric lines, this pattern is suitable for modern design. Alternatively, it works well in traditional rooms because patterns were traditionally produced with two- or three-color geometric tiles. From the late 1800s through the early 1900s, this pattern can be found on cement tiles in both commercial and residential structures in Europe. Similar patterns can be found using penny hexagon tiles in the United States. This pattern and color are ideal for shower walls, bathroom wainscots, and powder room floors.

           #2 - Stripes Cement Tile

Simple patterns offer a great deal of versatility in their use. The Classic Stripes in black and white are an excellent cement floor and wall tile with a contemporary design. This design can be used to make a diagonal stripe, a wide V-pattern, or a chevron. This is an excellent design for commercial settings, such as the lobby of a hotel, to direct guests to the reception desk, or apply a chevron or stripe pattern throughout the hallways.

You can also enjoy this design on a wall. The stripes make a powerful statement, and the colors are straightforward to work with. You can even offset the tiles to create a non-traditional and amusing black-and-white pattern using mismatched pieces.

           #3 - Mademiso Cement Tile

A Mademiso pattern maintains a modern aesthetic while softening the lines. This brand-new pattern is the epitome of trendy, modern style. Using intersecting squares on a diagonal grid, an eight-pointed star is formed. This pure, traditional color palette of black and white emphasizes the graphic impression. This design is perfect for softening the lines of a kitchen floor, backsplash, or accent wall.

           #4 - Bucharest Cement Tile

If you enjoy traditional designs and the calming hues of green, the Bucharest pattern is ideal for you. Consider mixing jade and pine green with deeper wood tones or porcelain tiles imitating wood in a master spa. This pattern also makes an excellent floor tile for a formal dining room, especially when paired with a table made of oak or mahogany.

Raw, unpolished, or polished are the three terms utilized to refer to the look of cement tiles. Polishing and the look of cement tiles are widely confused when comparing the prices and slip resistance, the ability to install, and desired appearance. It's essential to know the purpose of polishing and what it does to the tile, and the reasons why it's advantageous to choose polished tiles when they are they are available.

           What is Cement Tile Polishing?

If cement tiles are shipped directly from the manufacturer, customers could choose a "polished" and "unpolished" surface. Unpolished tiles are also identified as having a "raw" finish and tend to appear "chalky" when removed from the container. Most factories make raw or unpolished cement tiles. However, many suppliers give the option of getting tiles that have been polished by a factory.

Common Questions and Answers on Polished Cement Tile

Polished tiles are lustrous satin sheen that resembles the appearance that all cement floor tiles attain after a period of time and use. This sheen results from forces that abrasively impact the tile due to everyday usage. Below are some answers to the commonly asked questions regarding polishing the cement tile.

           What exactly is polishing?

Polishing is a mechanical procedure that uses a high-speed rotary buffer and mild abrasives as well as water in order to "polish" each tile. This process mimics the "patina" that a tile may develop over the course of many years of cleaning it using water and wax.

Are polished tiles really glossy and slippery?

No. Polished tiles are of moderate appearance, with a flat satin finish, and aren't as rough. Polished cement tiles can be used for flooring. It is important to note that, while their coefficient of friction for polished tiles is in the range that is acceptable for slip resistance, it's different from that of an unpolished tile.

Are polished tiles likely to have longer-lasting life?

No. The tiles are not polished. It does not extend the lifespan of the tiles.

Does polished tile require greater maintenance since areas with high treads will reduce "polish" and result in "walking lanes" with time?

No. Polishing at the factory isn't like the floor's wax. The polishing process in factories does not produce a "layer of polished" over the tiles. If not maintained properly, tiles can become glossy "walking paths" in areas with high traffic. To prevent this from happening, ensure the floor is well maintained and kept clean.

What is the benefit of polishing tiles?

When installed and cured, the tiles instantly create the appearance of a "lived in" appearance with a soft satin sheen. This effect will continue as you use them for normal maintenance.

           Benefits of Polished Cement Tile

Once you know the purpose of polishing and the process of doing it, we can discuss the advantages and the times when you should look into using polished cement tiles, if there is one available. As we said earlier, most factories make raw cement tiles that are not polished or polished. Tiles that are polished are slightly more costly, and you must keep this in mind when comparing costs.

Color bleed is prevalent when using high contrast tiles, for example, patterns that utilize the colors white or black. Color bleed is a result when cement tiles are placed within racks taken from a bath of water that is required to reinforce the tiles when they cure. The water sucks up tiny amounts of pigment and then drains into the tile. The darker pigments wash across the lighter parts on the tiles, creating some faint discoloration. This is a normal aspect of the manufacturing process, but it's not recommended for backsplash tiles, which are in the spotlight.

Additionally, polished tiles are typically easier to set up because grout isn't able to stick to the smoother surface. In general, the case of a grout release is not necessary when using polished tile. However, for cement tiles that are raw, we believe it's an excellent security measure.

The only instance where we would not recommend polished tiles is for outdoor patio use. Simply put, the polishing advantages are quickly lost with time due to elements like weather, wear and wind. Furthermore, if your project is time-sensitive, you might want to avoid polishing the tile because the tiles must dry before polishing. The time needed to cure is longer for polishing.

Cement Tiles with Solid Colors Add Subtle and Sophisticated Appeal

Tiles made of plain cement, also known as solid color cement tiles, as they are usually referred to, make excellent flooring options that have a subtle, sophisticated look that is a result of the natural variations in color, which is a result of the hand-crafted product. Additionally, you will find an array of shapes and colors to pick from based on the type of tile. Custom colors are possible as well! Here are some of our most popular simple cement tile designs and suggestions.

            Tip #1.

Utilize the same shade of cement tile throughout your area. The slight variance in the shade created by hand-crafted encaustic tiles provides subtle elegance with a lot of soul.

            Tip #2.

Create a rug from plain tiles framed by border design. Choose plain tiles for both inside and outside of the border. The border will add attention and interest without becoming too busy or overwhelming.

            Tip #3.

Create a grid with plain cement tiles and decorative accents of tile. Quart design patterns using four tiles are ideal for large spaces such as a patio. Single pattern tiles are suitable for smaller spaces, or you can choose random pattern tiles to create an effect of patchwork. The grid prevents the pattern from getting too dense and also provides negative space to help make the space feel bigger.

            Tip #4.

Place a plain tile on point. Utilize plain tile "on point" within the room. Then cover the entire edge of the room using plain tile or a pattern border tile. The tiles placed on points create interest and break up the square and rectilinear spaces that form part of an open plan. However, they should be placed close to each other. It is important to take into account any additional waste that may arise due to the quantity of cut tiles needed.

             Tip #5.

Use plain tiles on walkways and patios. Simple tiles look lovely on outdoor walkways and patios, particularly when patterned tiles are placed on the porch. When cement tile is used for outdoor areas that are exposed to the radiant energy of the sun, fading may happen as time passes. This is especially evident when using dark blue or green cement tiles. A portion of the color could be restored with the addition of an enhancer of color sealing sealer that penetrates regularly.

            Tip #6.

Make a checkerboard with high contrast colors to create an eye-catching effect. The pattern can be hung from the wall or frame using an edging in the center of the space.

The simple vine design of the Cuban Heritage 260 Pattern is utilized to create a zigzag design. The cement tile installation creates an interest and a sense of flow for an open, large area on the flooring. Additionally, the use of bright shades in the colorway makes the lines pop. In the colorway, the Jewel as well as Stormy Blue are in bold contrast to the soft Antique Ivory vine and even the softer Radiance blue against white backgrounds. The strong lines give an impression of motion. It makes a fantastic choice for a lobby of a hotel or storefront, gently leading the customer towards the center and soul of the property. Its edges are covered by the plain (solid color) tile that is a part of the pattern, giving an uncluttered look that helps define different areas.

The pattern is available in various designs based on the tile's position. The Cuban Heritage Tile is available in four different color options. The tile can be rotated in its orientation to make a zigzag or chevron. You can also create a lattice.

For a bolder design, you can alternate the pattern on each row or consider different patterns for the riser. There are plenty of ways to achieve a stunning design. These are our top suggestions for applying hand-painted decorative tiles to decorate stairs risers. Whatever your preferred design, it will always give you a unique design that was designed by you!

Use the Same Tile Pattern on Each Row

To create a classic and traditional look that's always stylish, you can use the same pattern of tiles on every line of the risers.

It is also possible to use different sizes of tiles in different rows when you are building a new home or adding an addition. This is a great option when you're designing an entirely new patio or house, and you want to move between spaces. If you already have existing risers that measure six inches high, consider six-inch tiles on one riser and two rows with 3x3 tiles on the

Different Tile Patterns on Each Step or Row

You might want to consider the possibility of using a different pattern on your riser. The pattern can be repeated on every row in a specific order or simply arrange rows according to colors or your personal preference. You may restrict your choices to a handful of designs and then repeat them in each next row.

Different Designs on the Same Riser

Often, to give a cohesive appearance that creates a lot of interest, choose tiles with different patterns that are on the same riser or row. It is recommended that the tiles are of the same manufacturer or artisan so that the background and pattern colors are cohesive, linking the various patterns.

As an example, the Spanish tiles include the Teruel, Alcala, and Andalucia. They look fantastic in a row with each other in identical rows.

Put in decorative tiles using plain tiles

Install the decorative tiles in a random alternate pattern. It is possible to place the decorative tiles on point and then cover the space with solid or plain tile colors. You can also create the same effect with various colors of plain tile. You can also add the horizontal or vertical "spacer row" using a 2x2 identical style or using a solid-colored molding or tile, like a domed liner or flat bar.

           Design Tip

The decorative tiles are typically available in a limited number of sizes, such as 6x6 or 4x4. If your stairway risers aren't the standard size, don't fret. You can achieve a stunning design by cutting the tile to size. This is also a good option in cases where the final couple of rows could be unique or "nonstandard" risers that are cut shorter to match the current grade.

Create your own designs using hand-painted or decorative tiles to make stairs. There aren't any strict design standards to abide by other than your personal style! Explore different patterns, sizes, and groups. You can arrange them in grid patterns like traditional grids or directly on the point with a field tile with a color that is coordinating. Try out different layouts until you discover the one that fits your personal design.

Tips for Designing Fireplaces using Cement and Ceramic Tile

Fireplaces are the perfect place for tile designs. Ceramic tile and cement especially are great choices due to the wide variety of patterns available, including designs both subtle and bold.

If you're considering creating your own fireplace, here are some suggestions to help you decide the best way to begin and the best kind of tile.

Design Tip 1: Define Your Style

With all the different kinds of tiles on the market, it is always recommended to begin by determining your preferences and what kind of style will work for your home.

Decide on your style and home's style prior to deciding on the tile to select. If you are in love with the tile, that doesn't mean that it's compatible with the layout and style of your house. For instance,

Do you prefer plain, colored tiles, or patterned tiles?

Are you mad to subtle patterns or vibrant patterns?

Are you working on traditional or modern design?

Answer these questions and you're off good start.

It is possible to use decorative tiles to accent your decor or make patterns with plain tiles by using three or more shades. Select the design that you like and fits the style of your home.

Design Tip 2: What is the style of the space your fireplace is in?

Ideally, you'll want ceramic or cement tiles that are able to complement or enhance the theme of your design. Also, you should select patterns that align with the architectural elements of your house. To do this, you need to think about the dimensions, color, and texture.

A Provincial Fireplace Feel

The rough, uneven surfaces of some tiles, for instance, create a rustic look that is perfect for homes that have the Spanish, Southwest, or Spanish Colonial style.

           Hand-Painted Tile Fireplace Details

The unique quality of hand-painted tiles makes it ideal for creating an impressive fireplace that is exclusive to your home and you. In reality, hand-painted tiles, along with their variations in color, provide an authentic appearance that works nicely with a rustic fireplace.

           Contemporary-Looking Tile in Neutral Colors

If you're looking to create an atmosphere of mid-century modern using modern, clean lines, then you'll want natural or neutral tile with a square edge without any pattern.

Contemporary-Looking Square-Edged Tile in Bold Colors

Another way to design contemporary that focuses on bright colors. If you're looking for a bold color, prefer bold colors on square-edged tiles that don't have any pattern.

Design Tip 3: What is your room's color scheme?

Choose the color scheme you want for your fireplace's design or, more specifically take your time and work within the existing color scheme of the room in the event that you're satisfied with the design. Start looking for tiles! Be sure to give the aspect of the design of the proper task consideration. Consider the size as well as the pattern and appearance that the tiles have.

It might sound simple, but ensure that the fireplace tile is framed by the fireplace box.

The patterns or colors must be able to bring attention to a space that is warm and cozy -- a space that makes you feel happy and wants you to pass it on to your friends and your family.

Beginning with this striking patchwork, the subtle grey shades make for a timeless, ultra-modern design that is a perfect match for stainless steel appliances and grey cabinets.

Choose a monochromatic palette that matches your preferred color. Think about the dimensions of the tile in relation to the space you have and how you intend to divide the space visually. Ketzien's design shows how a subtle line is created from the timber and tile firmly establishes where the kitchen starts and ends. For a variety of styles, such as normal hexagons or elongated hexagons, picket tiles and more give you a wide range of options that you can pick from.

Why Hexagon Tiles are Great Outdoors

Make your backyard more attractive with hexagonal tiles. One of the great things with hexagons for patio cement tile is that their design can conceal uneven floors as well as poorly formed areas. In this case, the use of an extended Palisade cement tile hides uneven flooring as well as the natural variations in the floor.

The replacement of the ceramic tile with concrete ones will transform the way you design spaces. Designing your exterior and interior that incorporate tile accents are fashionable; however, the maintenance and installation of non-cement tile alternatives are a big turn-off. Cement tiles have a lengthy list of advantages over other options. Find out more about ceramic tiles, saltillo, and terracotta tiles, and then learn about the incredible benefits of switching to concrete tiles.

The Sad Reality of Terracotta Tile and Saltillo Tile

Terracotta and Saltillo tiles are two of the oldest tiles used in homes. Both are ceramic types. As time passes, they'll begin to appear uneven and may require regular maintenance as well as replacement tile. They will also become damaged, chipped, and lose the color that they were in during the initial installation.

Cement vs. Ceramic Tiles: What You Should Know

Ceramic tiles look stunning; however, they fade in brilliance with time. Ceramic is made from clay, and the designs are dyed or painted on the surface. The paint and dye fade as time passes due to the sun and usage. Prior to firing in the kiln, tiles are finished in one of two glazes, while those that are not glazed are matte in appearance.

Cement tiles contain a pigment that is mixed into the slurry with marble powder and sand. Since we incorporate pigment into the concrete, it lasts more than the painted ceramic. Dry concrete backing is added to the concrete. It is later compressed using the pressure of 2,000 pounds. Between the compression and the addition of the concrete back, tiles possess outstanding insulation qualities and can last for years due to their long-lasting nature.

           Concrete Tile Installation & Maintenance

The uniformity of the dimensions and shapes of concrete tiles makes installation easy. In contrast to their ceramic counterparts, the molds from which they are created, as well as their curing process, allow them to keep the same shape. Once they are installed, they have to be cleaned with fine 600-grit sandpaper. They are followed by sealing with penetrating sealant. Finally, they need to be polished using an even clean pad. The sealing process is permanent and bonds with the concrete, resulting in greater protection.

Concrete tiles make life easier. Thanks to the sealant, the cleaning procedure is just one wash. Get your tile clean using pH-neutral soap and water. You can use a variety of cleaning products for this purpose, such as Oxy-Klenza, Eff-Erayza, Rejuvenat Spray, or Dry-Treat Rejuvenata Active. The same cleaning products can also clean grout.

           The Benefits of Concrete Tile

If they are properly installed and maintained, the tiled cement will be able to last for a lifetime. They are durable enough to withstand heavy use, regardless of whether they are used as walls, backsplashes or countertops, or even walkways. The color of the tiles will not be faded because they are set into the tile's design. In terms of structurally, cement tiles are an enormous benefit to your home as they're insulated and also.

Avoiding Efflorescence in Cement Tile Installations

Efflorescence is a physical process that happens to concrete when it is in contact with water. The subject is a bit technical, but it's easy to grasp and is a must-study if you own a concrete tile or are thinking about its use in a future project. It's important to know what it is and where it is originating from, the reason it happens, and the steps to get rid of it or prevent it from happening. The phenomenon of efflorescence can be found in all concrete, but the issue is usually related to colored or decorated concrete as it alters the appearance and color that the tiles have.

           What is Efflorescence?

The term "efflorescence" refers to a powdery substance or incrustation that can form on concrete surfaces such as cement tiles, sidewalks, or drives. It is important to keep in mind that it's a normal physical phenomenon. It can be seen in any product that contains Portland cement, such as clay, terracotta, and concrete. It usually resembles the white salt or powder on cement tiles. The word "efflorescence" is of French origins and translates to flower.

Efflorescence is not typically damaging or leads to structural damage, particularly when the source of the issue is taken care of. But, it isn't pleasant to behold and definitely alters the look and appearance of the tile if it is present.

           Where is efflorescence derived from?

Efflorescence is a phenomenon that occurs substances and salts that are soluble get on the surface of mortars and concrete. Have you ever dried a pot in boiling water or washed your car with a hose in the full sunshine? You can see the residual salt or a ring of salt left. The water is drained and evaporates its salt behind. The same is true for efflorescence. When cement tiles become dry, and the lime contained in the cement rises to its surface, the tile with water and then reacts by combining carbon dioxide with air, forming calcium carbonate. In this instance, the form of a white powder or film is formed on the surface of the tile. It's caused due to low temperatures, humid conditions, condensation, and water. It can happen very quickly after exposure to cool or moist conditions, or it can happen more slowly in concrete structures that are sub-grade (like an underground garage parking).

Because of the method in which they are manufactured and transported, there is a possibility of efflorescence in cement tiles when they are removed from their boxes. It is more likely to occur immediately after installation, particularly on cement floors.

Cement tiles are hydraulically compressed and then placed on racks. The tiles are then soaked in water baths to reach saturation with water, which assures proper cement hydration. After that, the tiles are allowed on the drying rack for about 10 days before being allowed to cure prior to shipping.

The kind of efflorescence we have described above is typically known as powdery efflorescence. The phenomenon is prevalent on unsealed outdoor tile walkways and untreated interior tiles that are in humid or wet areas and is typically noticed when newly-made cement tiles are removed out of the box following being kept in humid, cool conditions prior to their installation.

Things You Need to Know Before Installing Encaustic Cement Tiles

In addition to being breathtakingly beautiful, encaustic tiles have numerous benefits that make them superior to standard ceramic tiles. Flexible, durable, and customizable tiles add aesthetics to any room and can be used everywhere in your home that requires some creativity. From the kitchen's backsplashes to fake rugs in an elegant living space, they've been gaining popularity across the country as a durable, cost-effective method of introducing style to the space. Before you begin installing these tiles, there are some points to be aware of about encaustic cement tiles.

           1. How Encaustic Tiles Are Made

If you take a look at the range of tiles on the market, it is a clear distinction between two kinds of tile: ceramic tile and encaustic tile. While ceramic tiles can be purchased at a cheaper price, there is a reason for it. Ceramic tiles are created from clay and are fired in a kiln. They can be coated or not. In contrast, encaustic tiles are constructed from various ingredients (including natural colors, sands, and marble powder) and are formed by pressure. In addition to being environmentally friendly, they ensure that each tile is designed to the preferences of the homeowner.

           2. Fully Customizable

One of the reasons why cement tile has been able to stand through the years is that it can be completely customized according to one individual's specifications. Thanks to the materials that were employed in the design, cement tile can be constructed in virtually any pattern, color, or shape. The sweeping arabesque patterns that are vibrant blues are just as easy to create as sharp contemporary lines in trendy grey tones. The possibility of being completely customizable is the reason why many homeowners choose cement tiles instead of ceramic, and it is enhanced by the strength that each of the tiles offers.

           3. Colors Are Endless, but Location Matters

While we are enthralled by our tiles, we have to at times acknowledge that they need to be in sync with the natural world. Before you put in your encaustic cement tiles, spend a few minutes to consider the areas they'll be placed. The sun's rays can dull greens and blues, making your gorgeous patio appear somewhat worn. It is recommended to select warmer colors like orange and red or neutral colors that work with all decors outdoors. Indoors, however, you can choose to open up to one of the encaustic tile options and in any color, without worry about it fading.

           4. Wall Tiles Can Be Used on Almost Any Surface

As we've mentioned before, encaustic cement tiles could be used in any location to provide some color; however, the surface you're placing the tile on is important. Floor tiles work best when placed on an even, well-made concrete surface, whereas wall tiles are more flexible on their surfaces. Since floor tiles are subject to the brunt of pressure when walking furniture or appliances, they require a stronger installation surface. Wall tiles do not typically require pressure, which is why they can be installed on drywall, plaster, and cement-backed board. It's all about convenience, and our stock tiles can be installed easily on almost every wall area.

The Specialties of Spanish Colonial Tiles

The tiles made from cement have been used since the mid-1800s and are supported by centuries-old artisanal techniques. The tile designs are from the time of the medieval period in Spain, which is when they were produced in large quantities. In the past, Spanish tile is seen covering churches and palaces as mosaics as decorative accents and also on fountains.

The thing that traditional tile makers would have never imagined in the past was how great cement tiles are for today's homeowners. They are as practical as they are elegant and durable; they're a great alternative for walls, floors as well as outdoor spaces in your home. They are able to withstand water and spills, everyday damage, and withstand changing fashions.

Unique ways to add flair by using Cement Spanish Tiles

There is a myriad of ways to incorporate Spanish tiles to decorate your home with an individual touch. The designs range from stunning intricate patterns to striking lines and striking colors. Traditional Spanish tile is often characterized by the earthy terracotta color, golden yellow, bright cerulean blue, orange aqua, and green that emphasize desired areas.

Use this tile to create any of the following ways that will customize your home:

Island backsplash in the kitchen and flooring

Spanish Colonial tiles work amazingly for backsplashes since they can ward off the effects of food spills and moisture as well as shield your walls. The tiles can be laid up all the way to the cabinets or even the whole wall, but do not forget the front of your kitchen island, which is often overlooked. Spanish tiles can also be used for kitchen floors. One of the most common ways homeowners can use pattern cement tiles. These vibrant tiles can be used to enhance simple tiles or transform the floor into amazing artwork.

           Shower floor and bathroom floor

So long as the tiles of cement are sealed correctly, Spanish tiles turn boring bathrooms into magazine-worthy spaces that are resistant to water and water damage. An excellent way to spice up your bathroom without overdoing it is to turn the shower into a focal point by laying tiles on the shower floor to ceiling or adding some style by placing the pattern tiles on soap shelves.

Patio floor, outdoor and covered porch

For warmer climates that do not have freeze-thaw cycles, cement tiles can transform outdoor spaces into stylish places to relax and have social gatherings. Make use of Spanish tiles on the floor of your patio and on walls of retaining as well as other elements of hardscape. If you own an outside bar area, you can use this area to be creative with vibrant designs. Spanish tile has the elegance and style you want to make a memorable event space.

           Foyer carpet and hallway

An exciting and unique way to incorporate patterns of Spanish tiles in the interior of your house is to put them in the entranceway, in the hallway to create an edging tile or use them as a faux rug wherever you'd like to give your home a little style.

The tried-and-true floor and wall tile combinations

It can be daunting to start a remodel. The most common question when it comes to selecting tile for a remodel is, "How do I choose between a wall and floor tiles?" They should coordinate or contrast, have the same shape, different shapes, or use the same materials. Your personal tastes and space will determine the design you choose. We do have some reliable combinations for floor and wall tiles that produce beautiful results.

           Contrasting Colors

Boldly contrasting colors will make a big impression. Each tone stands out more when the light and dark tones complement each other. The modern tub's sleek lines are also highlighted by the dark background.

Contrast is glamorous with this spectacular display that exudes a sense of grandeur.

You can create contrast with colors other than black and white. A wood-look floor is a warm option that balances grey walls and white walls. It also offers tons of textures and welcoming touches.

           Monochromatic Mix

You can use different materials, finishes, and sizes on your floors and walls if you don't want a monochromatic palette. This can add dimension, texture, and interest to a design while still keeping it clean. This is a great way to add safety and functional features. A glossy ceramic wall tile protects the backsplash against spillages and is easy to clean. The porcelain floor tile coordinates with the backsplash and is strong. It also transitions smoothly between the surfaces in the same soft gray color palette.

This space is a great example of mixing materials (also called "fusion"). It has ceramic wall tiles with porcelain shower wall tiles, porcelain floor tiles, and marble trim pieces. All of these materials are combined in a cohesive manner and in a monochromatic palette to create a tranquil spa bathroom.

These floor and wall tiles look great together. They are all different in their finish, shape, size, and material. It works because the colors are soft and neutral, and organic materials add warmth to the space.

The shower's style is unified by the identical polished finish of both the ceramic subway wall tile and the marble pan tile. A frame marble mosaic adds elegance and fusion to the shower.

Another way to add interest to monochromatic designs is to change the shape of your floor and wall tiles. A cream laundry room has so many appealing features, from the mixture of ceramic and porcelain to the different shapes.

This is a wonderful example of fusion. Although the materials used for the floor and walls are different (real wood, porcelain mosaic, and wood-look porcelain), they share a rich hue that ties them all together.

           Coordinated Collections

Using the same series or collection on floors and walls is a great way to make sure your design flows well.

The space uses the same stone, Milas Lilac, on all surfaces. There is no concern about the tiles not matching. We have used many different shapes, and we aren't even sure if they all count! These zones subtly separate the shower area from the vanity area.

How to Install a Cement Tile Flooring

Many homeowners, interior designers, and restaurant owners ask for cement tile flooring.

From start to finish, installing cement tile flooring can be a time-consuming process. Before you can even start the installation of cement tiles, there are many decisions to make. The first thing you need to do is decide on the design, shape, and color of the tiles that you would like to install. This is the most difficult part of the whole process, depending on how specific you are about the design elements. There are so many options for tile shapes, designs, and sizes.

There will be differences in the production conditions, materials, and quality of tiles from one factory to the next. This is why it's important to research which factories and manufacturers can deliver the results you desire at a price you are comfortable with.

These are some characteristics you should look for when searching for the best cement tiles to fit your home or business.

Tiles come in different thicknesses, making it difficult to lay the final product "flat."

Tiles that are inconsistently clear result from poor pigment pouring during production.

Variations of the exact same color. Another form of production error is inaccuracies in pigment color measurements.

Crumbly tile backs are a sign that the title is weak. This can be caused by hydraulic pressure that is too inconsistent or too much sand in it.

Tile edges that "chip" easily is a sign of poor quality control in the factory or a weak mix.

The cement-to-sand ratio will impact the strength and durability of the final product.

The quality of pigments can affect the rate at which colors fade in direct sunlight.

Requesting engineering test reports is the best way to determine the quality of a factory, its production processes, or the quality of the material they use. These tests are based on uniform standards set by an outside engineering company. This is a great way for outside feedback to be gathered about a tile factory and to ensure that all your requirements and standards are being met.

Once your production of tiles is under control and you have begun to receive your order of tiles, you can begin to install your tiles.

No matter if you have a wood or cement subfloor, it is important to start by "dry fitting" your tiles. This will enable you to visualize how the tiles will look when completed. You may find minor differences between batches of tiles. Dry fitting the tiles will allow you to arrange the tiles in a natural way.

While it's typically associated with sparkling beauty, this luminous substance is more than an attractive appearance. It is also a great performer in terms of durability and cleanliness. It has an impervious surface that blocks staining, mold, mildew, and bacteria. The advantages that go beyond its stunning appearance are often ignored; however, we are able to confirm that it is worthy of a special mention for its many functional advantages that will ensure its beauty lasts for a long time.

Let's get started and get some insight into the main advantages of these tiles so that you are able to easily shop for your next design idea!

           Easy to maintain tiles

One of the most appealing features that glass tiles have is their low-maintenance quality due to their tough and nonabsorbent surfaces that are immune to mold, stain, and bacterial growth. Glass is a very resistant, durable, and nonporous material, which does not require sealing to preserve its stain-resistant qualities. Even after decades, the tiled area will appear as great as it did when new! If it gets dirty, just clean it using a nonabrasive cleaning product A little bit of maintenance can go well to preserve its beauty and shine!

With such a smooth, nonporous surface, it's no wonder that the most used home application of glass is in kitchens and bathrooms. It doesn't matter if it's the bathroom backsplash, shower walls, tub, or shower surrounds, it gives an uncluttered surface that's immune to all wear that a kitchen or bathroom can endure.

The shower is an ideal area to install the nonporous tiles since mineral deposits and soap build-up generally require extra effort to remove. If you are averse to the amount of elbow grease your bathroom demands and you're looking for a shower tile made of glass, this can make the task easier. Clean up any spills in the event of them and then wash regularly using a gentle cleanser that is nonabrasive with a damp sponge or cloth and then wash thoroughly to keep it sparkling clean.

Are you worried about having to scrub your kitchen backsplash, causing you to suffer from headaches? It's not necessary to worry about even the most severe spills on glass subway tile backsplashes because its surface is a barrier to any food spills. If you're considering making an improvement to your kitchen area, think about placing this stain-resistant tile in the kitchen behind the stove, which is a perfect location to display a unique glass insert while shielding your kitchen from the mess that are created by cooking.

Styles, Colors, and Finishes Oh My!

If you believe that glass is synonymous with clear mosaic tiles, think again! Glass mosaic tiles are available in an almost limitless array of colors, styles, and finishes that can meet your requirements for design, whether modern, retro, contemporary, or other styles. From recycled glass that has a stunning look to geode-inspired tiles that resemble stones, there are plenty of options to satisfy any style preference.

Don't be scared to use glass, even if a shiny or glossy look isn't your thing. Glass mosaic tiles are available with a range of colors such as matte or honed finishes to create a modern appearance or a more rough appearance. To add a touch of flair, think about choosing tiles that have distinctive patterns that add a splash of color, like the wood-look subway tile, which will perfectly complement a farmhouse look or marbled mosaic tiles to give an authentic, natural look.

Create a pyramid to make diagonal tiles

            Diagonal layout

The standard method for laying tiles diagonally is by marking an angle of 45° on the floor or wall. If the angle isn't 45° like the diamond-shaped tile, finding precise lines can be a challenge. Therefore, we'll demonstrate an alternative method: mark one layout line, then place the tiles on it by aligning the corners of the tile to the line. Make a pyramid with a centre on the line. Use both sides to line up every diagonal line. Be sure to inspect each side of the pyramid frequently using the aid of a straightedge.

            Special mortar for big tiles

           Specialty, thin-set mortar

The thin-set type of mortar makes the most effective bedding adhesive for most tiles. However, if you're planning to set tiles that are bigger than 12 by 12 inches, look for words such as "medium bed," "large tile," or "large format" on the label. Larger tiles require a more dense layer of mortar, which is why, unlike thin-set mortar, medium-bed doesn't diminish its bonding capacity when laid large amounts of it. It's also stronger and shrinks less, meaning tiles are more stable when the mortar is set. Medium-bed mortar is sold at tile stores, as well as home centres.

A niche size that is appropriate to the tile

           Layout the tip

If you're thinking of the wall niche, then lay the tiles and take measures to figure out the dimension of your niche. If you can customize the niche so that it can be placed between the full tiles, you'll be able to get an attractive installation and will cut down on cutting. If you use a diagonal layout, you'll receive half tiles as well as full tiles. If the trim is going to frame the niche, you need to incorporate it into the design.

"Lippage" can be described as the technical term used to describe uneven edges on tile (though "@%&#" is more commonly used). Lippage can be difficult to avoid with large tiles and is easily visible with grout lines that are narrow or tile with square, rather instead of rounded, edges. If you're in any of these circumstances, the leveling wedges and clips help lay the tile in a flat position. Simply slide the clip underneath the tile and then push it into the wedge. Once the thin-set has set and the clip is broken, you can remove the clip. LASH clips of the brand are available at tile shops and homes centres.

Make small cuts across the tile, about 1/8 inch deep. This reduces chipping.

Porcelain tile is extremely hard and extremely fragile. This means that it is often chipped on cracks or in cuts prior to the cut is finished. Three steps to follow solves these issues. The first step is only compatible with saws that let you alter the cut's depth. If your saw doesn't allow this, you may still be able to make the third and second cuts to be sure to avoid cracks.
